The Vision

The vision of Texas Southern University International Programs is to develop an environment to integrate all of its units, both academic and non academic, into a unified global research, action oriented and responsive institution. The University will seek to develop cooperative programs with partner institutions both dmestic and abroad. This will lead to Texas Southern becoming a leader of interdisciplinary knowledge creation and analysis, which fosters global understanding, policy formulation, and implementation.

The Mission

The mission of Texas Southern University’s International Programs is to encourage and promote international communication, collaboration and cooperation through research and practical application of problem identification and issue solving techniques. The University will promote the development of global citizenship among its students and seeks to become a forum for issues of public policy in the international arena. All university units will collaborate to accomplish this goal.

We invite students to join one of our 5 faculty-led programs that visits countries during the Fall, Spring, Summer I and Summer II semesters.

China - Business Department

International Study Abroad: China and More! Sponsored by: American Marketing Association of the Jesse H. Jones School of Business

Come join the American Marketing Association and the Jesse H. Jones School of Business, as we visit China and more! During our 2 week trip, we will visit some of the top companies in the countries we visit and speak with executives of the various companies, as well as, take in all the sights and sounds that these countries have to offer. This trip is an academic trip, and it provides students the opportunity to apply what they have learned in class to real-world experiences. You are allowed the chance to be up-close and personal with some of the company’s top executives as they explain their strategies to develop in their country and globally.

This trip is supported by a full-service company that supplies all the needs of the group. The trip cost varies based on the different locations visited. It has ranged from $4500 - $5400 per student. The cost of the trip covers round trip airfare, 5 star hotel accommodations, cultural excursions, most meals, and transportation while in the countries (air, bus, train).

This trip has covered multiple countries (U.S., Dubai, Singapore, and China). We have visited businesses such as Hyundai, Singapore Airlines, Nalco, Harley-Davidson, IBM, Lenovo, PR Newswire, Ogilvy, and H. Brothers Studios. We have seen the sights at the Original Confucius Institute, the Great Wall, the Forbidden City, Terra Cotta Soldiers, Burj Khalifia, Shanghai Financial Center, and the 2010 World Expo (we intend to visit the 2020 World Expo in Dubai).

The primary requirements of this trip are to be a TSU student in GOOD academic standing. Preference will be given to the AMA/JHJ students followed by any other students until all slots are filled. There is an application process, and a deposit required. There is the potential to receive some financial support, but it is not guaranteed. This trip is funded by the student.

Spain

Spain is, above all, a mosaic of cultures. Heterogeneous. Old and modern. Refined and popular. Holy and secular. Plural and diverse. The variety of its cultures attracts. The historic heritage dazzles. The vital power of its people fascinates. Spanish culture is extremely rich and touches upon all forms of artistic expression. From literature to painting, music to architecture, the theatre to sumptuary arts. In each of these aspects, at some time in history or other, Spanish culture has reached the highest artistic heights: from bygone times (with outstanding examples of cave art) until present day (a time in which Spanish architecture is universally avant-garde), culture and art in Spain are prominent features of the country.

Current Spanish culture is enjoying good health, as can be seen, for example, in a prosperous editorial industry that produces over 90,000 volumes per year. Cultural tourism is becoming an alternative to sun and beach tourism, as a result of the wealth and quality of the museums, monuments, fiestas and traditions, not to mention the expositions and various cultural displays. Just to give an example, Spain boasts one of the greatest collections of historical and architectural monuments in the world, as demonstrated by the fact that it is the country with the second highest number of UNESCO World Heritage designations. An approximate inventory of the monuments in Spain would reveal over 20,000 important pieces.

Spanish theatre and cinema is becoming a reference point in Europe, thanks to events such as the Theatre Festivals of Mérida, Sagunto and Almagro and the San Sebastian and Valladolid cinema festivals. Spanish universities play a very important role in the diffusion of the national culture, and their summer courses, held in universities such as El Escorial, Salamanca, Santander and the International University of Menéndez Pelayo (UIMP), with seats in Santander, Barcelona, Cuenca, Galicia, the Pyrenees, Seville, Tenerife and Valencia are of particular relevance. Scientific and cultural research is carried out by the state-dependent Superior Council of Scientific Research.

Tanzania

Mwalimu Nyerere once said that culture is the essence and spirit of any nation,A country which lack its own culture is no more than a collection of people without the spirit which makes them a nation. Tanzania has been described as one of the most diverse countries in Africa and this is reflected in the fact that there are more than 158 local languages spoken in the country. Swahili is the national language that is widely spoken while English is the official language of education; administration and business. Traditional African values are being consciously adapted to modern life, although at a much slower pace among the Maasai.
